Family Guy, the animated comedy
series from creator Seth MacFarlane, will be
joining cable network
TBS this summer as part of its primetime
line-up. TBS, (formerly known as the
Superstation) will unveil a new look
emphasizing comedy beginning Friday, June 4.
Family
Guy will premiere Wednesday, July 7 at
8:00 p.m. for one hour. The series will
continue to air Wednesday evenings on the
network.
For the past year, Family Guy has
aired on
Cartoon Network's
Adult Swim
programming block, bringing in high ratings.
The series often tramples The Late Show
with David Letterman and The Tonight
Show with Jay Leno in ratings for men
aged 18-34. It temporarily aired on
TBS
last summer in the daytime, bringing in
decent ratings. (Cartoon Network, like TBS,
is owned by the same corporate parent,
Time Warner.)
The series has also benefited from excellent
DVD sales.
In Family Guy, Peter Griffin
(MacFarlane) is the father of this
not-quite-so-average family of middle-class
New Englanders. Lois (Alex Borstein) is
Peter's loving wife, who struggles to
maintain a modicum of normalcy in their home
life. Rounding out the Griffin household are
their children: 16-year-old, angst-ridden
Meg (Mila Kunis); 13-year-old sweet-natured
Chris( Seth Green); and 1-year-old Stewie (MacFarlana),
a diabolically clever baby who's already set
on conquering the world. And then there's
Brian (MacFarlane), the brainiest of the
bunch, who also happens to be the family
dog.
New episodes of the series are tentatively
scheduled to premiere in 2005 on both
Cartoon Network and its original
television home,
FOX.
